Other Information:
- Closed Trout: This tryout will be open to players only. No parents/friends will be allowed to remain in the gym once tryouts have begun. Player should plan to arrive approximately 15 minutes before the start time to check-in. Once the check-in process is completed, we will not allow any new players into the gym, so please be sure to not be late.
- Dress Code: All players must be dressed in appropriate athletic attire and shoes in order to participate.
- Multi-Day: The tryouts will take place over a course of two days. It is highly recommended that players attend both days, however it is not mandatory.
- Paperwork: All participants are required to bring the necessary paperwork to the tryout in order to participate. There will be no exceptions. If paperwork is not fully completed, it will be considered incomplete.
Skills Testing (In order of importance):
- Passing: Receiving serves with correct form and discipline/consistency
- Defense: Speed and reaction (back row)
- Hitting: Correct form and footwork, timing, speed & acceleration in approach & explosiveness
- Serving: Overhand serving strength/form
- Overall, we will be choosing players who move athletically with speed, control, and aggressiveness. While experience is not required, it is highly recommended that players come in with prior knowledge of the game.
- We appreciate players who follow directions and catch on to the simple drills quickly.
- We notice the players who stay engaged and put in consistent positive effort (if you're not running in drills, we see that too). Engagement/effort doesn't just start & stop with physical movements, but it's also displayed in how you interact with other players and how vocal you are.
- Coaches evaluate approximately 100+ students during the tryout season so it is highly competitive. Unfortunately, you might do everything right, but there may be players who do it better, and due to a limited roster count, we can't accept everyone.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:
Who is required to tryout?
- All incoming and returning players will be required to tryout. Returners are not guaranteed a position on the roster.
- All players will need their completed physical and emergency card. Players should be dressed in athletic attire and shoes. While water fountains are available at the facility, we recommend players bring their own water bottles to prevent long lines.
- It is not mandatory to attend all days of the tryout, however it is recommended as it gives coaches a better idea of your overall skill level.
- Tryouts will be separated into grade levels (9th/10th & 11th/12th). All returners will be required to try out with their grade. The summer tryout is our Main Tryout and will determine at least 90-100% of the roster spots. The Final Tryout is a supplementary tryout that will fill any remaining spots left after the Main Tryout. The Final Tryout is the MOST competitive and it is not guaranteed a spot will be available at this point.
- There is no specific number of players that will be selected at each tryouts. However, we anticipate to have approximately 12 players chosen for each level (FS/JV/V) by the time we hold the Make-Up Tryout on the first day of school.
- Typically rosters for each team will range from 12-15 players. There will be three teams: Frosh-Soph, Junior Varsity, and Varsity.
- We will be holding one summer training session that will be open to all athletes.
- Yes. The summer training sessions are mandatory and your acceptance into the program will be contingent upon your attendance. The boot camp is also an opportunity to move up to a higher level team.
- No. Students who do not have a physical with a doctor's signature/stamp will not be allowed to tryout. Students will need a current Emergency Card and Physical to be allowed to tryout. No exceptions will be made.

- If you have submitted a physical within the last year to the school nurse, we will require a signed note from the nurse that confirms your physical is still valid.
- Players are required to have maintained a minimum GPA of 2.0 in the prior semester to be academically eligible to play. Any player who is academically ineligible for the season will be removed from the program roster.
